Woman ‘poisoned to death’

Barisal: A housewife was allegedly poisoned to death by her husband and in-laws over dowry at Shihipasha village in Agailjhara upazila on Monday night, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Lima Akter, wife of Jasim Hawladar of Shihipasha. Family members of the victim said Lima, daughter of Mujam Sardar of Baniashuri village in Gournadi upazila and Jasim tied the knot just six weeks back. Lima’s husband and in-laws poisoned her to death failing to realize dowry. Lima’s family gave cash and gold ornaments during the marriage. But just a few days into married life together, Jasim started torturing his wife regularly on the pretext of more dowry, allege Lima’s family members. On Monday afternoon, Jasim and his family members tortured Lima again, but she this time refused to budge. At one stage, Jasim and his family literally forced her to stop.
