220 houses brought under electricity network
SHERPUR: A total of 220 houses in Dhala union under Sherpur Sadar upazila were brought under the rural electrification network by Sherpur Palli Bidyut Samity on Monday, reports BSS.
Atiur Rahman Atik, whip of the Jatiya Sangsad, formally inaugurated the new connection line as the chief guest at a function at Rasulpur Bazar.
General manager of Sherpur Palli Bidyut Samity Maksud Haque Khan, local union parishad chairman and elites, among others, were present on the occasion.
Sherpur Palli Bidyut Samity implemented the programme at a cost of Taka 35 lakh.
Youth stabbed dead in Munshiganj
Munshiganj: A young man was stabbed to death and three others injured in an attack by a young man at Pura village in Tongibari upazila on Monday night, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Faisal Dhali, son of Nazrul Dhali, a
resident of Dhalikandir Noadda village in Sadar upazila
Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Tongibari Police Station, said Faisal along with three other friends—Shahidul Islam, 22, Akash Miah, 22, and Mohammad Masum—were returning to their village after visiting a puja mandap at night.
When they reached the village, one Miraj Miah, 23, attacked and stabbed them indiscriminately, leaving them critically injured. The injured were rushed to Munshiganj General Hospital where doctor declared Faisal dead.
Later, the three injured were taken to Dhaka for better treatment. There had been a dispute between Faisal and Miraj over love relation with a college girl, added the OC.
Meanwhile, locals caught Miraj from the spot, gave him a good thrashing and handed him over to police.
Painting competition held
MYMENSINGH: A painting competition for children marking the International Day for Disaster Reduction was held at Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Sangrahashala here on Monday, reports BSS.
Mymensingh district administration organized the competition with the association of different non-government organisations including World Vision Bangladesh, Mymensingh region.
Some 50 children from different educational institutions took part in the competition in three groups to sketch the disaster, its risk and reduction, sources said.
Deputy keeper of the art gallery Mukul Dutta, Md Abdur Rouf, principal (acting) of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Art Institute, and Badal Chakraborty, art teacher of Mymensingh Shilpakala Academy were present as the judges of the competition.
Md Abdul Latif, additional deputy commissioner (Education and ICT) inaugurated the competition as the chief guest. Among others, Mohammad Hossain, district relief and rehabilitation officer and disaster management specialist of World Vision Mymensingh region Md Abdul Barek were present.
