Bangladesh wouldn’t say ‘sorry’ to England captain Jos Buttler as they don’t see any unfair things involved in celebrating a big wicket that made them absolute favorite to win the second match and level the series.
England accused Bangladesh of giving Jos Buttler a verbal ‘send-off’ that was ugly and then shoulder-barging at the post-match handshakes to boil things in front of a partisan crowd.
Buttler had to be ushered away by the umpires after squaring up to Bangladesh fielders when he was given out lbw on review just as he looked poised to win the game and series for England.
The stand-in English captain later said he did not like Bangladesh celebrating “in my face” and he also reacted to something shouted at him by batsman Mahmudullah as Bangladesh levelled the series with a 34-run win.
Things weren’t over. It continued after the match when Ben Stokes, the vice-captain, vented his anger towards Bangladesh batsman Tamim Equal as the two teams lined up to shake hands.
After watching the video clippings of the incident, it was understood Tamim and Jenny Barstow’s shoulder-barge was unintentional but Stokes who was behind Barstow angered so much so that he vented it by pushing the Bangladesh opener.
“Congrats to Bangladesh on the win tonight, they outplayed us, what I won’t stand for is someone putting a shoulder to my team-mate at handshakes,” he tweeted when he returned to the team hotel.
The tension is not now only confined to the two teams it also spread amongst the fans. While the England accused Bangladesh to heat the things up, Bangladesh claimed they shouldn’t be blamed.
The series deciding third match would definitely be high tempered and tension would run high amongst the players, considering those incidents.
However after being asked by an English journalist, Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza ruled out any possibility of saying sorry to Jos Buttler for the whole matter.
His answer was straight-faced as he said: “Actually we didn’t do anything wrong so we shouldn’t do that. Whatever we feel , we just celebrated, we don’t have to say sorry but whatever the things happened, match referee was there. Still I feel that the boys just celebrated.”
Mashrafe said as far as he is concerned, he celebrated in right manner despite being fined by the ICC. At the same time, he added the ICC has the right to take action if they find any wrong in anything.
“Look I guess that the 20 percent we got I mean, that’s after getting that wicket we just had a celebration and I think you can look at it as a normal thing every team does that if you get a wicket you always celebrate but there is a law that maybe match referee thought that it went out of the code of conduct actually we didn’t mean it but whatever happened is done we are trying to play a good match tomorrow.”
