Bangladesh seemed to have given back to what they tasted after being sledged and tormented by the opponents in on and off the field for years. Their new found attitude however was completely unknown to the England who was irked by the celebration the way big teams are used to do. With team’s chances to win diminishing after his dismissal, the roaring celebration probably hurt Jos Buttler and his players’ ego so much so that they just couldn’t stand it.
Jos Buttler accused Bangladesh players of celebration on his face while Ben Stokes pushed Tamim Equal for the shoulder-barging with Jenny Barstow whom Tamim intended to friendly.
“It’s not that they saw such sort of celebration for the first time in their life. Australians are doing this repeatedly with them. What we understand that they couldn’t stand it because they are still thinking us minnows,” said a former Bangladesh captain Gaza Ashram Hussein Lip.
“It was just celebration that they couldn’t taste; specially they were on the verge of the defeat. However I hope both teams will play the cricket in right spirit.”
Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza also pointed out to play the cricket in right spirit even though he believed there will be more tension and the incident would spill over into the series deciding match.
“It can be (spill over into the next match), as far as our team is concerned I hope it will be a normal match we are concentrating on our preparation. Obviously we start the game as we always do. I am expecting nothing to happen on the ground and I am also expecting a good match,” he said.
Lip however said Bangladesh should stick to the aggressive attitude because it gives them more option to win the match.
While Lip advocated for it, Mashrafe also indicated that they won’t give up the new found aggressive attitude as far as it is within the limit.
“Actually the discussion and criticism has not touched me at all, I don’t even know what happened. Yes Sabbir and I got fined, but I have not been thinking about these things,” he said.
“I have never thought about these things in my career, if you look at the past, I have played for 16 years, we have heard comments of many people and we have kept on playing, the Bangladesh team has played, and I don’t think that we did something unfair (in the second match).”
“Even we have heard comments from others. Yes, maybe many things may happen in the heat of the moment, so one doesn’t have to go overboard with this.
Everyone will have to take this easily. Match referee was there he saw our mistakes and we have been fined. I have accepted this and this is a gentleman’s game and we will try to play our best.”
While Bangladesh got backed up by the former players and captains for their attitude, Jos Buttler also was supported by the former English players.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan told the Telegraph that “Jos Buttler is entitled to lose his temper but the best response to the wind-ups is winning.”
Another former England captain Nasser Hussein, who is now in Bangladesh as a Television commentator, praised Buttler for his aggression.
‘It was great to see Jos do that,’ said Hussein to Sky Sports. ‘I’ve never seen that from Jos. He’s so calm and so calculated.
‘It’s nice to see that he’s got a different side. Sometimes he may have to rein it in.’
Nasser termed Butler’s attitude as outcome of the heat of the battle and praised the passion of the captain.
