Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim yesterday said National Mental Health Act- 2016 would be enacted soon to ensure the rights of mental patients across the country, reports BSS.
"The draft of the National Mental Health-2016 has been completed and we will soon place it before the cabinet for approval," he said.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion at National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to mark the World Mental Health Day with the theme "Dignity in Mental Health-Psychological and Mental Health First Aid for All" in the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area. He urged all concerned to play a responsible role for ensuring mental health services for the people at the grassroots level.
Mentally sick people are part of the society and it is the responsibility of all to stand beside them without ignoring, he added.
Prof Md Abdul Hamid presided over the programme while secretary of health ministry Syed Manjurul Islam, Pro VC Sharfuddin Ahmed spoke, among others.
