The curtain will fall on 18-day ‘National Theatre Festival 2016’ today by staging three plays at three venues in the capital. With the slogan ‘A Mati Noy Jongibader, A Mati Manobotar’, the event was organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) and Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation (BGTF).
Today, on the concluding day of the festival, popular theatre troupe Bahubachan will stage its acclaimed-production ‘Devi’, an adaptation of a novel with the same title by Humayun Ahmed, today the Mahila Samiti Mancha, Baily Road (Natok Sarani) in the capital.
The play ‘Devi’, 22nd production of the troupe, is directed by Arham Alo and dramatised by Iqbal Hossain, the plot of the play revolves around Ranu, a young woman, and Misir Ali, one of the most widely found fictional characters of Humayun Ahmed.
On the other hand, the two other plays will be staged simultaneously at the Hall of BSA at 7pm today. Among these, Subachan Natya Sangsad will stage their play ‘Pranay Jamuna’ at the National Theatre Hall of BSA and Sabdaboli Group Theatre from Barisal will stage ‘Saheb Chander Eid Bhojon’ at the Experimental Hall of BSA.
To note, a total of 58 troupes from across the country participated in the event, which took place in four venues simultaneously. The venues were—National Theatre Hall, Experimental Theatre Hall and Studio Theatre Hall of BSA, and the Mahila Samity Mancha in Baily Road.
