Bangladesh pace ‘heart-throb’ Taskin Ahmed said that they will triumph the series if they could perform according to their capability against the visiting England in the series- deciding match in Chittagong.
“The series now became jelled further. England, no doubt, is a stronger side. But if we could play our best, then winning is possible in the series-decider,” said Taskin Ahmed yesterday.
“Actually it is difficult to tag us ‘favourite’. But if we could play to our potential, we could then win the series,” Ahmed told reporters before leaving hotel for Chittagong.
“After winning the last match, the confidence amongst the team’s players has been built up. Inshallah, this confidence will benefit them for winning the next match,” he added.
Beside Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Taskin Ahmed helped Bangladesh pull off the victory of the second match, which levelled the series 1-1. Taskin burst through England's middle order with three important wickets in his second spell, where he conceded just 18 runs.
“All they are very effective against pace bowling. Mashrafe bhai and I could have bowled very well though one of my overs in the first spell became so expensive. Actually I wanted to do a different thing by sending short deliveries at that time,” the 22-year-old explained.
“You all know my major strength is pace. By speed bowling I became successful most of the times,” he said.
England stand-in-captain Jos Buttler barred Bangladesh for the second match victory. Chasing 238 runs, English batsmen trudged back to the pavilion one by one, where well-set Buttler posed a threat for Bangladesh. Finally Taskin Ahmed removed him with his outstanding second spell.
Taskin-Mashrafe-Riyad-Sabbir expressed their overwhelming delight after dismissing the English captain, who was on 57 as if they won the match at that moment what it disliked by Jos Buttler and one stage he was moving towards the Bangladesh players. However, the on-field umpires divided the both side.
“Buttler is a great batsman. He was in game-changer at that moment. For this, I was very glad to get his wicket. Our celebration was more for it,” the right-handed quick responded to a media query.
After the reaction of Taskin Ahmed, it is learnt that ICC fined Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza and middle-order batsman Sabbir Rahman for breaching ICC code of conduct.
Commenting on his decision, match referee Srinath said:
“The Bangladesh players overstepped in their celebration while dismissing Jos Buttler, which prompted an inappropriate reaction from the dismissed batsman and required the on-field umpires’ intervention. We all want to see high intensity on the field of play, but only as long as it is not provoking or antagonising or disrespecting the opponent.”
