‘Akash’s family involved in militancy’

UNB

The entire family of slain militant Faridul Islam Akash, who was killed during a drive in Patertek area of Gazipur city on Saturday, has been involved in militancy, claim police, reports UNB. Sumit Kumar Kundu, officer-in-charge of Kazipur Police Station, said Akash, son of Abu Syed Munshi of Paschim Baroitali village in Kazipur upazila, obtained diploma degree in Computer in Science from Sirajganj Polytechnic Institute in 2015.
Police submitted chargesheet against Akash, JMB Dhaka regional Commander, in a case filed under Anti-Terrorism Act with Ullapara Police Station last year.
Meanwhile, detectives arrested Akash’s mother Fulera Begum, his two sisters -- Shakila and Salma -- from their house on September 5 last on suspicion of their involvement in militant activities, said OC.
Seven suspected militants, including Akash, were killed during a drive by the police's counter-terrorism unit at a house in Patartek area of Gazipur on Saturday.
