Man injured in AL factional fight dies at RMCH
Kushtia: A man, who got injured in a clash between two groups of Awami League at Machhpara village in Sadar upazila on September 24, died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) yesterday morning, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Akam Uddin, a resident of the village. The victim’s family members said Akam received severe injuries in the clash and was admitted at Kushtia Sadar Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to RMCH where he succumbed to his injuries around 9am yesterday.


Man found dead in Comilla
Comilla: A man was found dead at a water body in Mugshair village in Muradnagar upazila yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Abu Yusuf, 32, an inhabitant of the village. Quoting the victim’s wife, Rekha Akter, police said Yusuf went out from his home around 8 pm on Saturday to buy some medicines and since then he remained missing. Local people spotted the body of Yusuf in the water body and informed police around 7 am yesterday. Mizanur Rahman, OC of Muradnagar Police Station, said the body bore several injury marks. A case was filed in this connection.


Jamaat leader arrested

Police arrested a local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami from Sonaichandi Bazaar in Nachol upazila on Saturday night in connection with sabotage cases. The arrestee was identified as Abdul Bari, 46, rokon of Kasba union unit of Jamaat and an inhabitant of Sonaichandi area. He is the teacher of Islamic History Department of Sonaichandi Technical College. Officer-in-Charge of Nachol Police Station Fasir Uddin said tipped off, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in the area and arrested Abdul Bari at night. The Jamaat leader was wanted in three cases filed with Nachol and Gomostapur police stations for subversive activities, the OC added.


Two children drown

Two girls drowned in a pond in Dasadi area of Sadar upazila on Saturday noon. The deceased were identified as Riya Aktar, 12, daughter of Fazlul Haque Akanda of Dasadi area of Sadar upazila, and Nahida Sultana, 14, daughter of Nannu Miji, a resident at Koralia Road of the district town. Family sources said Nahida drowned first while both girls were taking bath in the pond and Riya got drowned as she tried to rescue her cousin. Later, family members rescued the duo using fishing net and rushed them to Chandpur General Hospital where doctor declared them dead, said Assistant Director of the hospital Dr GM Faruq Bhuiyan.


Woman killed by criminals
Joypurhat: A housewife was killed by criminals at Deora village in Akkelpur upazila early yesterday, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Aroti Rani, 27, wife of Ujjal Chandra, a resident of the village. Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Akkelpur Police Station, said Aroti did not return to the house after going out to respond to the call of nature around 10pm on Saturday.  After a frantic search, family members found her critically injured at a paddy field near the house around 4am. Later, she died on the way to hospital. On information police recovered the body. She might have been killed after rape, added the OC.


Boy dies falling from tree
BARGUNA: A 12-year-old madrasah student died after falling from a tree at Baulkar village under Sadar upazila of the district yesterday, reports BSS. The deceased was identified as Al Amin, son of Md Kabir, hailed from the village of the upazila. Officer-in-Charge of Barguna sadar police Riaz Hossein quoting Kabir said Al Amin fell from a Tamarind tree in the morning when he was trying to go to top of the tree.
