NARAIL: The 22nd death anniversary of legendary artist SM Sultan will be observed today. SM Sultan Foundation and the district administration have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day, reports BSS. The programmes include placing of wreaths at the grave of SM Sultan, Quran khwani, milad and doa mahfil, art competition for children, prize distribution and discussion on Sultan’s life and works. Sultan was born at Machimdia village in Jessore district on 10 August, 1923. His fame rests on his striking depictions of exaggeratedly muscular Bangladeshi peasants engaged in the activities of their everyday lives. For his achievement in fine arts he was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 1982; the Bangladesh Charu Shilpi Sangsad Award in 1986; and the Independence Day Award in 1993.
