Indian High Commissioner here Harsh Vardhan Shringla yesterday said Bangladesh and India will continue to live as good neighbours through maintaining peace and solidarity and they will remain together both at good and bad times, reports UNB. “Today, Bangladesh rejected extremism with strong determination and achieved success as a progressive society,” he said in a message marking the Durga Puja.
Shringla said an excellent relation between Bangladesh and India is prevailing now under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi The High Commissioner is celebrating Durga Puja in Bangladesh for the first time in his life. “I’m very delighted with the colorful Puja Mandaps both in Dhaka city and other cities of the country and villages,” he said.
Shringla said Bangladeshi freedom fighters and Indian troops together took part in Liberation War in 1971 being inspired by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He said the people of India and Bangladesh celebrate all the programmes together and share the joys. The High Commissioner said poet Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam’s works speak about sorrows and joys of the people of the two countries. “Your dream of having Sonar Bangla is also our dream. India stands ready to help Bangladesh for development,” he said.
The envoy thanked the Puja celebration committees and greeted all on the occasion of Durha Puja. During the holy festival of Durga Puja, Shringla visited the Puja Pandals at Gulshan, Banani Puja Committee, Ramakrishna Mission, Dhaka, Dhanmondi Sarbojanin Puja Committee, Kalabagan, Mahanagar Puja Committee, Dhakeswari Temple. He also inaugurated prasad distribution ceremony at Dhakeswari temple.
