Bangladesh middle-order batsman Mushfiqur Rahim remains in the doldrums as his bad patch is still continuing.
Mushfiq, who is also Bangladesh captain in Test, trudged back to the pavilion just for 21 in the second match of the three-match ODI series against England yesterday.
He scored only 12 in the opener of the ongoing series against touring England on Friday.
Rahim appeared in the wickets when Bangladesh were limping at 39 inside 14 overs following the loss of the three top-order batsmen including Tamim Iqbal (14), Imrul Kayes (11) and Sabbir Rahman (3).
Initially, it was deemed that Mushfiq will break his on-going drought of runs when he hit two successive boundaries for Jake Ball through third man and cover-midoff respectively. The second match is being held in the third pitch (from west side) of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, which is difficult for batsmen to score more runs.
The middle-order batsman cuts square through the off side for Ball to give deep point some work for doubles. Following a single through point, he thereafter punched past extra cover to long-off and entered in the 4000 ODI runs club.
The diminutive man, dubbed as ‘Mr. Dependable’ for his scoring ability, shared a 50-run partnership with Mahmudullah Riyad for the fourth wicket stand. But he could not stretch his individual score as he gave a catch to strike the pull for Jake Ball and Moeen Ali took a superb tumbling catch running in from fine leg.
Last time Mushfiq scored fifty or fifty more runs just seven match ago against Zimbabwe in November 2015. He clattered an unbeaten 107 off 109 that laced with nine fours and one six.
The highest score among this seven one day matches was 38 that he made in the third and last match of the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, the series which Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) arranged for Tigers ahead of the England series.
The wicketkeeper-batsman so far played 163 one day internationals for Bangladesh after being made his international debut in 2006. He scored 4009, where he smashed four hundreds and 22 fifties with the best of 117.
