CHITTAGONG: Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) yesterday announced a budget of TK 2225.67 crore for 2016-2017 fiscal with a special emphasis on infrastructural development and removal of water logging of the port city, reports BSS.
Announcing the budget in presence of CCC ward councilors, officials and journalists at KB Abdus Sattar auditorium of CCC, Mayor A Z M Nasir Uddin said no new tax has been imposed in the budget. "It is a development-oriented one aiming at providing better civic amenities to the city dwellers," he added.
The mayor in his speech said the proposed budget has given special emphasis on infrastructure developments, education and health sectors and removal of water logging, the major problem for the city dwellers.
He announced that CCC has taken up 36 development projects, including building of the port city as clean and green, reducing of water-logging, digging up of channel according to the master plan of 1995 and building a garments' village and a bus terminal at Khalurghat.
Of the total budget, Tk 1197.42 crore has been earmarked from the own fund of CCC while TK 985.10 crore would be available from different development grants.
In reply to a question, city Mayor said the proposed budget is practical but not ambitious. The mayor also announced Tk 592 crore 66 lakh revised budget for the 2015-16 fiscal.
