The government will not change its earlier decision to add 10 marks to the creative questions and reduce 10 marks from MCQ portion of SSC and HSC examinations, said Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Sunday.
“The earlier decision will not be changed. There is no logic to change it as students will have no faced to take their preparations for the examinations in the new decision,” he said while he was talking to reporters after a discussion meeting at the ministry with the top academicians.
The meeting was held as students of several institutions of the capital had been staging movements to change the government’s move to increase the number of creative questions in both SSC and HSC examinations for several days.
The minister said the government has taken the decision in 2015 and it will be effective from 2017, adding that “we have taken the decision considering the merits of the students as there will be no problem to take their preparations.”
He said some rural students went to a demonstration against the government decision and some students of the capital joined the movement but now there is no demonstration against it. Nahid said earlier, 60 marks were allotted to answer six creative questions out of nine in 2 hours and 10 minutes and now 70 marks were fixed increasing 10 marks in 2 hours and 30 minutes to answer seven creative questions out of 11.
He said earlier 40 marks were fixed for the MCQ portions in 40 minutes and now, it was selected 30 marks decreasing 10 marks where they will get 30 minutes.
