In remembrance of prolific author, poet and playwright Syed Shamsul Haq, National Poetry Council has organised an elaborated programme today at 5pm on the premises of Central Public Library in the capital’s Shahbag area. The programme will feature discussion, recitation, songs and poetry reading.
Presided over by National Poetry Council president poet Muhammad Samad, many noted and newbie poets will attend the programme to pay tribute the late author and former National Poetry Council president, Syed Shamsul Haq who died on September 27.
Born on December 27 in 1935 at Kurhigram, Syed Shamsul Haq won the Bangla Academy Award in 1966, Ekushey Padak in 1984 and Bangladesh’s highest civilian honour, Independence Award in 2000 for his contribution to Bangla literature. Haq wrote poetry, fiction, plays (mostly in verse), music lyrics and essays. His literary works were included in the curriculum of school level, secondary, higher secondary and graduation level Bengali literature in Bangladesh. He is the youngest among all to receive the Bangla Academy Award at age of 31 in 1966.
