GAIBANDHA: A human chain to raise awareness among the people about the prevention of child and early marriage was formed in the district yesterday morning.
According to sources the district administration took an initiative to make Gaibandha early marriage free district this year at the directives of the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
A formal announcement would also be made on December 16, 2016 in this regard, said acting NDC (Nezarat Deputy Collector) Musabbibur Islam.
To create awareness among the people about the early marriage and its bad impacts in the society, the human chain was held in all the seven upazilas of the district yesterday for an hour and a half from 10 am.
A human chain organised by district administration was also formed on the premises of district collectorate building where DC M 0 Abdus Samad addressed as the chief guest and additional deputy commissioner (General) Mohammad Mizanur Rahman was the moderator.
Speaking on the occasion, DC M Abdus Samad said child and early marriage is a curse and it has a bad impacts on population growth and women’s health and also causes the untimely death of women.
The DC also sought whole hearted cooperation of all including district and upazila women affairs officer, social service officers, family planning officers, district registrar, district information officer, and the media men to make the initiative a grand success.
