‘Zoning project to ensure proper use of land’

RAJSHAHI: State Minister for Land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury said the government is carrying out land zoning to ensure planned utilization of each inch of land, reports BSS.
He said “The present government working to complete the land zoning through ‘the National Land Zoning Project (NLZP)’ of land ministry to protect the country’s agricultural land and to ensure planned urbanization.” 
He said this while speaking a divisional level workshop on “Land Zoning” in the conference room of district administration yesterday as chief guest.
NLZP and Divisional Commissioner’s Office jointly organized the workshop.  Rajshahi divisional commissioner, deputy commissioners, UNOs, assistant commissioners (land) and other officials concerned put forward their views in the workshop.
With Divisional Commissioner Abdul Hannan in the chair, Chairman of Land Reformation Board Mahfuzur Rahman, NLZP Director Shawkat Akbar, Project Team Leader Abdul Wahab and GIS and Remote Sensing Specialist Mahabubur Rahman, among others, addressed the workshop.
Saifuzzaman said the authorities concerned have already started land-zoning activities to ensure land management in a fair and planned-way all over the country.
“Land zoning activities have already begun at 326 upazilas under 43 districts and the programme would be expanded gradually in all the districts, he added.
In an effort to introduce modern land management system, the government is using ICT-based programme to remove land related problems in the country.
Expressing grave concern over the fierce contest on land sale and purchasing throughout the country, the state minister said it would ultimately lay an adverse effect on the country’s agricultural land and different water bodies including river, canal and ponds.
He also advised the citizens to refrain from converting agricultural land into housing for the greater interest of the nation.
