Protests ‘not based on science’

Awami League Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud yesterday termed the protesters against the Rampal power plant as not science-oriented and said they (protesters) are passing comments ‘relying on astrology’, reports BSS.
“The project of Rampal power plant is being implemented scientifically. But the protesters are bypassing the scientific basis,” he told a discussion marking the World Teachers’ Day at Jatiya Press Club auditorium here.
Pro-liberation war teachers’ council Swadhinata Shikhak Parisad organised the discussion with its general secretary Shahjahan Alam in the chair.
Directorate Secondary and Higher Education Director General Professor SM Wahiduz-zaman and ALCWC member Sujit Roy Nandi were present on the occasion, among others.
Hasan Mahmud said the world’s largest mangrove forest the Sundarbans was being treated as the World Heritage Site under the initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
