11 killed in three road accidents

At least 11 people, including women and children, were killed and 25 injured in different road accidents in three districts yesterday (Wednesday).

Six women were killed and 15 injured in a head-on collision between two passenger buses on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway in the Kashipur area of Shibganj upazila in Bogra. 
Shamim Akhter, a sub-inspector (SI) of Shibganj police station, said the accident took place between a Dhaka-bound passenger bus of Hanif Enterprise and a Nabil Enterprise bus headed for Rangpur around 12.30pm.
The dead were Julekha, 60, wife of Loya Mia of Sultanpur village in Gabtoli upazila of Bogra district, Doly Akhter, 35, daughter of Loya Mia, Lila Khatun, 25, daughter of Lutfar Rahman of Ramshafar village in  Dinajpur district, Sayeda Anowara Begum, 65, wife of Fazlul Bari of Mohammadpur, Dhaka, Priya Bala, 55, wife of Abhoy Chandra Dash of Govindaganj village in Gaibandha district, and an unidentified 50-year-old woman.
Md Abul Bashar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Govindaganj highway police station, said a case has been filed with Shibganj police station in this regard. The police have seized the two buses.
Four people travelling on a cement-laden truck were killed and 10 injured in a road accident at Jokerchar in Kalihati upazila of Tangail. The accident took place on the Dhaka-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway .
Three of the dead were identified as Sohel, 35, of Syampur village of Bera upazila in Pabna district, Sujan, 38, of Saghata in Gaibandha district, and Absar, 60, of Hashempur village in Sibgong upazila of Bogra district.

Bangabandhu East police station OC Asabur Rahman said the accident took place when the tyre of one of the front wheels of the truck, bound for North Bengal, burst. The driver lost control and the vehicle overturned and fell into a road-side ditch.
Kofil Uddin, station officer of Tangail Fire Service, said the four died on the spot. The injured have been admitted to Tangail Medical College Hospital.
In Jessore, five-year-old Fatema Khatoon, daughter of Shimul Hossain of Mathurapur village in Kotwali thana area, was killed in a road accident.
Anju Ara Begum, her daughter Rahima and granddaughter Fatema were going from Arpara to Chowgacha in a human-hauler on the Barobazar-Chowgacha road. When they were near the Echapur Primary School, a Chowgacha-bound truck hit the human-hauler from behind, causing it to turn turtle and fall into a road-side ditch. Fatema was declared dead after being taken to the Chowgacha health complex.
