A six-storey apartment building is being constructed at Baily Road for ministers, housing and public works minister Mosharraf Hossain said yesterday.
“Ten ministers could stay here. Each of the flat measures 2,248 square feet. The estimated cost for the building is Tk. 47.75 crore,” the minister said while inaugurating the construction work.
Housing and public works ministry secretary Shahid Ullah Khondaker, PWD chief engineer Hafizur Rahman Munshi, ministry additional secretary Akhter Hossain and chief architect Kazi Golam Nasir were also present during the inauguration.
“There is a shortage of accommodation for cabinet members and government officials. Around 1.5 lakh government officers and employees are now working in Dhaka. Of them, only 8 per cent get residential facilities,” Mosharraf Hossain said.
