ACC arrests LGED official

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested an official of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in connection with a graft case yesterday, reports UNB.
A team of ACC arrested Tamzid Sarwar, a deputy director of Dhaka Urban Management Support Unit under the LGED, from his residence in the capital in the morning, said Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, public relations officer of the ACC.
Earlier on Tuesday, the ACC filed a case against Tamzid for allegedly misappropriating over Tk 1 crore during the construction of Dharmapasha-Joyosri road in 2010-2012.
At that time, the LGED official was working as an executive engineer in Sunamganj.
Staff reporter from Barisal adds: The commission arrested Manjurul Ahsan Ferdous, a contractor and owner of luxurious MV Kirtankhola launch of Barisal-Dhaka-Barisal route, yesterday afternoon. Aktar Hossain, director ACC Barisal office, said Ferdous arrested from his residence in Nabagram Road area of the city with the help of Kotwali police.
Ferdous was arrested as an accused of a case lodged at Sunamganj in connection of misappropriating Tk 1.02 core from a construction project of local government engineering department at Sunamganj funded by World Bank.
Suvash Chandra Dutta, deputy director of ACC Sunamganj office lodged the case against Ferdous and nine others in this connection with Dharmapasha police station on October 4, 2016.
Nazmul Ahsan, assistant director of ACC Barisal office, said arrested was produced before the court at afternoon.
