Bangladesh and India have agreed upon to form a joint working committee to fix the price of diesel to be imported from Numaligarh Refinery Limited, a public sector oil company in Assam to Bangladesh, says a press release.
The decision was made at a bilateral meeting in between the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas of India and the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources held in Delhi yesterday.
On behalf of Bangladesh, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid led the delegation while the State Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas of India Dharmendra Pradhan led the Indian team in the meeting.
“The price is likely to be set at $5.5 per barrel of diesel while the international price is between $5 to $6,” sources said.
During the meeting, different things were addressed which comprise--importing gas from Tripura, consortium of four nations to import gas from Myanmar, supply of LNG (Liquefied natural gas) from Indian Oil Company, RLNG (Regasified liquefied natural gas) and LPG (Liquefied petroleum gas) supply from Adani, placing re-gasification unit jointly by the Petronet and Petrobangla, BPC (Bangladesh Petroleum corporation) and NRL (Numaligarh Refinery Ltd), finalising the agendas of purchasing and selling of diesel in between BPC and NRL, training programme for developing skills manpower for energy sector of Bangladesh.
“Any kind of training programme will be executed in accordance to the demand of Bangladesh. The graduate students can be trained and sent to the Diploma courses. Tripura has not sufficient amount of gas right now, so in future it can be counted into consideration,” State Minister for Petroleum and Natural gas Dharmendra Pradhan.
Meanwhile, Nasrul Hamid said: “The interest of Bangladesh has been accepted to participate through the gas pipe line with TAPI (Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India), Iran and Myanmar. State Minister for Petroleum and Natural gas of India Dharmendra Pradhan will have a conversation personally with the steering committee and Turkmenistan.”
“BPC and IOCL (Indian Oil Company Ltd) jointly will perhaps work to the market expansion of the LPG. The LPG companies of Bangladesh will get the chance to enter the Indian market and this topic has also been discussed in the meeting,” he also added.
The high officials from each ministry were present at that time.
