President Abdul Hamid yesterday described communal harmony as a great tradition of Bangladesh and urged all irrespective of caste and creed to continue to make efforts so that none can tarnish this tradition, reports BSS.
The president said this when an 8-member delegation, including the trustees of Buddhist Religious Welfare Trust, made a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban here yesterday afternoon, president’s press secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS. During the meeting the delegation led by religious affairs minister Principal Motior Rahman handed over a report of the trust to the President and apprised him of the activities of the trust. They informed the president about different activities under implementation and future development programmes of the trust and sought his cooperation about financial assistance for those programmes.
They also informed the president that formulation of a Buddhist family law is under way and sought the president’s cooperation in this regard.
The delegation told the president that the trust is planning to organise an international peace conference soon and invited the president to attend it as the chief guest.
