ACC to do right work at right time, says Mahmood

‘ACC is working sincerely to prevent corruption from society involving social organisations’

Chairman of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Iqbal Mahmood on Wednesday warned that the anti-graft agency will do the right work at the right time, reports UNB.
The ACC chief came up with the remark after Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain issued a warning to the ACC following its anti-corruption drive in Rajdhani Unnyan Kartripakha (Rajuk).
On Tuesday, Mosharraf Hossain told a function that the ACC will face trouble if it goes for a drive in Rajuk to ‘create disturbance’ there.
“The Commission’s duty is to do the right work at the right time. And it will, of course, do that as it doesn’t face interference in this regard,” Mahmood told a contract signing ceremony at the ACC conference room in the capital.
About the all-pervasive corruption, he said the ACC is working sincerely to prevent corruption from society involving social organisations.
“Corruption, I think, is endemic in the country. We couldn’t yet do what we were supposed to do,” the ACC chairman said adding that it will be possible to check corruption if social organisations extend their support to the Commission.
Earlier, the ACC signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh Girl Guides Association, a voluntary organisation, to take collaborative programmes to stamp out corruption from society.
ACC director general Dr Shamsul Arefin and national commissioner of Girl Guides Association Syeda Rehena Imam signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides.
ACC commissioner AFM Aminul Islam and its senior officials were present on the occasion.
