Govt to nationalise colleges, schools at upazila level: Nahid

The government has a plan to nationalise one college and a secondary school in every upazila of the country where such intuitions do not exist, reports BSS.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said this in the Jatiya Sangsad yesterday while replying to a question treasury bench member Begum Laila Arjuman Banu.
The minister said the prime minister has given approval for nationalizing 113 secondary schools, adding, “The education ministry finalised selection of 113 secondary schools.”
“The government has nationalised 37 colleges and 17 secondary schools at upazila level across the country so far in the light of its plan,” he informed the House.
Nahid said that the education ministry has also issued instructions to nationalise 37 colleges and 17 secondary schools.
Replying to another question from treasury bench member Safura Begum, he said the government has given priority to technical and vocational education to make human resources skilled considering the necessity of modern era.
“Some 7,000 public-private educational institutes have been giving technical and vocational education to students,” the minister said.
He told the House that the public polytechnic institutes have been running in double shifts for the last five years and around 58,980 students have admitted to the public and 46,571 to the private polytechnic institutes in four years course this year.
“Some one lakh students are expected to enroll in the public polytechnic institutes from the next year and 10,51,646 students have admitted to technical and vocational institutions till September 2016,” Nahid said.
