A two-day film festival titled ‘Asian Film Festival 2016’, featuring films from seven Asian countries, will kick off today at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) auditorium of Dhaka University (DU) in the capital. MCJ Film Club, an organisation run by the students of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department of the university, has arranged the festival. Presided over by Professor Mofizur Rahman, chairman of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department, Vice Chancellor of DU Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique will be present as chief guest at the opening ceremony.
‘Nayak Raj’-famed actor Razzak will inaugurate the festival today at 11am, while celebrated actress Sarah Begum Kobori, veteran filmmakers Morshedul Islam and Mostofa Sarwar Farooki will be present as special guests at the event. Today, on the opening day of the festival, ‘House of Flying Daggers’ (China) will be screened at 1:30pm, while ‘Three Iron’ (South Korea) and ‘PK’ (India) will be screened at 4pm and 6:30pm respectively.
On the second day, ‘In the Mood for Love’ (Hong Kong) will be screened at 11am, ‘A Separation’ (Iran) at 1:30pm, ‘Spirited Away’ (Japan) at 4pm and ‘Runway’ (Bangladesh) will be screened at 6:30pm. The festival is open to all and films can be enjoyed by purchasing tickets at Tk 20 each, which will be available at the venue.
