Imam stabbed dead in Chandpur; youth held

OUR CORRESPONDENT, Chandpur

A local mosque imam was stabbed to death allegedly by a drug-addicted young man at Shilasthan village in Kachua upazila yesterday morning. The victim was identified as Shah Alam alias Shahab Ali, 65, an imam of local mosque and resident of the village. He was also a teacher of local Forkania Madrasah. Ashrafuzzaman, additional superintendent of Chandpur police, said a young man identified as Rony, 20, of the same area, stabbed Shah Alam with sharp weapons at Forkania Madrasah around 6.30am while he was teaching Arabic to his students. He was taken to the upazila health complex where doctors declared him dead. Local people caught Rony and handed him over to police.
