The government would undertake a project to set up 10,000 Sheikh Russel Digital Labs (computer labs) at educational institutions across the country, reports BSS.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak disclosed this in the Jatiya Sangsad yesterday while replying to a supplementary question from whip Shahiduzzaman Sarkar.
“We have already installed 5,500 computer labs and 30,000 multimedia classrooms at educational institutes in the country. And there are 1,70,000 educational institutes from class 6 to 12 across the country,” he said.
The state minister informed the House that Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy, Information and Communication Techno-logy Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister, has been conferred upon "ICT for Development Award" for his far reaching initiatives in setting Bangladesh on the road to Digital World.
He said the country’s export earnings from the IT sector would be US$ 1 billion by 2018 and it would jump to US$ 5 billion by 2021.
Palak said that the government is implementing the project titled 'Computer Lab at Educa-tional Institution and Language Learning Lab'.
The government has been working with four goals- E-governance, Human Resources, Con-nectivity and Industrial Develop-ment, of which, the tax holiday has given to the IT products up to 2024.
