Professor Mohammad Ahsanul Haque, a retired teacher of English Department at Dhaka University, passed away yesterday morning at his residence at Segunbagicha in capital, reports BSS.
He was 84. Prof Huq left behind his wife and two sons. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique yesterday expressed profound shock at the death of Prof Huq.
In a condolence message, he said Prof Huq was a devoted and sincere teacher and researcher who also had played an important role in the country's all progressive movements, including War of Liberation in 1971.
The vice-chancellor prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members. Prof Huq was laid to eternal rest at Azimpur graveyard following his namaz-e-janaza at DU Central Mosque after Asr prayers. Born in 1933 at Shahjadpur in Pabna district, Prof Ahsanul Huq received his BA (hons) and MA degrees in 1955 and 1956 respectively from Dhaka University.
