ACC arrests CCC, PWD engineers in graft cases

CHITTAGONG: The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested an engineer of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) yesterday morning on charge of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 35lakh, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Saifur Rahman, executive engineer (Civil division) of the CCC.
Azizul Islam Bhuiyan, divisional director of Chittagong regional ACC, said the Commission filed a complaint against him in 2009 for accumulating wealth illegally.
Later, Hamidul Hasan, deputy director of Chittagong ACC, submitted a report against him on July 13 this year after an investigation. Following the report, a case was filed against him with Khulshi Police Station on July 17. An ACC team arrested Saifur around 11am while he was going to office, said the ACC official.
Besides, the Commission yesterday arrested a superintending engineer of Public Works Department (PWD) and a bank official from the capital in separate graft cases.
ACC deputy director Mozahar Ali Sardar of its Rangpur zila office arrested PWD supernatant engineer ABM Jalal Uddin, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said.
On April 17, 2013, the ACC filed a case against five people, including him, with Gaibandha Police Station for allegedly swindling out Tk 4.78 crore of public money when he was the executive engineer of the department in Gaibandha.
Besides, ACC assistant director Jahangir Alam of Dhaka zila office-1 arrested former officer of Sonali Bank Haradhan Sarkar from the capital. On October 12, 2015, the ACC filed a case against Haradhan and 11 others with Nababganj Police Station for allegedly plundering Tk 48 lakh of Dhaka zila parisad by opening bank accounts with Nababganj branch of Sonali bank against 46 fake agencies.
