Short, Docu film fest begins today

A six-day ‘Bangladesh Short and Documentary Film Festival 2016’ will begin today simultaneously at the premises of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) and as well as 64 district Shilpakala Academy. BSA has organised the weeklong festival titled ‘Bangladesh Short and Documentary Film Festival 2016' in association with the Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Short Film Forum and Bangladesh Documentary Council.
Cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor will inaugurate the festival today at 6pm at the National Art Gallery auditorium of BSA. Presided over by BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, eminent filmmakers Syed Salauddin Jaki, Morshedul Islam and Manjare Hasin Murad will also be present at the opening ceremony. The weeklong festival, which will take place at BSA and at 64 districts Shilpakala Academy, located at the 64 districts of the country, will screen a total of 84 short and documentary films.  
A selection committee consisting five members has selected 35 short films and 29 documentary films from 200 entries submitted films and the rest 20 films have been selected which has been made at different time for different reasons.  
Among the participating films, two best films and two best directors from both the short and documentary categories will be selected by a jury board consisting of five members. Each award recipient will receive Taka 1 lakh, crest and certificate for best films and taka 50,000, crest and certificate for best directors.
To disclose the above information, a press conference was held on Thursday at the seminar hall of BSA, where noted filmmaker Syed Salauddin Jaki, BSA secretary Jahangir Hossain Chowdhury, Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies General Secretary Belayet Hossain Mamun and Bangladesh Documentary Council President Anwar Chowdhury, among others were present. BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky presided over the press meet. Liaquat Ali Lucky said, “The purpose of arranging the festival is to create a platform for the people of all districts to watch short and documentary films created locally.”
