ICM seeks cancellation of Rampal power plant

UNB

Ideal Citizen Movement (ICM), a newly floated social group, yesterday demanded that the government immediately cancel the Rampal coal-fired power plant for the sake of the Sundarbans, reports UNB. The demand was made at a human chain formed in front of the Jatiya Press Club in protest against the police action on a cycle rally of “Save Sundarbans”, a young Facebook-based cycling group. Speakers alleged that the government is destroying the world’s largest mangrove forest to serve the interest of India.
Addressing the rally, Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (Jagpa) president Shafiul Alam Pradhan said the government has no right to destroy the Sundarbans.
