WARRANT AGAINST TARIQUE
BNP demo in capital today
The BNP has decided to stage demonstrations protesting the issuance of a warrant of arrest against its Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman in a sedition case. According to the party decision, it will stage demonstration in the capital today and elsewhere across the country tomorrow. BNP standing committee member and city unit BNP convenor Mirza Abbas announced the programme for Dhaka following a joint meeting of the city unit yesterday.
Later at a press conference, BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu announced the countrywide programme. The BNP leader said they would observe the programme at city and district levels in protest against the issuance of the warrant against Tarique in what he said a false case. Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal staged demonstrations in the capital and elsewhere in the country yesterday against the warrant of arrest against Tarique, who is now living in London on health grounds. Shamsuzzaman Dudu expressed the partys deep concern over issuance of the warrant against Tarique and demanded its immediate cancellation. He alleged that the Awami League-led government was issuing the warrants against Tarique to tarnish his political image. Earlier, on September 29, Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sarafuzzaman Ansari issued the warrant of arrest against the BNP leader in a sedition case filed with Tejgaon Police Station. BNP chairpersons adviser Gholam Akbar Khandaker, Habibur Rahman Habib Imran Saleh Prince and Masud Ahmed Talukder, among others, were present at the press conference.
