Opener Tamim Iqbal responded to the call of captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza by holding together the innings in smart fashion even though Bangladesh tasted a mini collapse in the middle order what became an ordeal in the series against Afghanistan.

Tamim led the batting revival and was the reason that Bangladesh put up a healthy 279 for eight.
Unarguably the country’s best batsman who holds all the record of batting for Bangladesh. Tamim Iqbal has the only lack was that he jointly held the record of most centuries for the country in ODI cricket with Shakib Al Hasan. Both of them have six centuries before the third ODI but yesterday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Tamim took the lead solely by erasing Shakib who witnessed it from the other end. Tamim is in now seventh heaven after scoring a run-a-ball 118, hitting 11 fours and two maximums, his seventh century in 156 ODIs. The century put him a solo position of leading the century tally for Bangladesh but the most important aspect was his batting was he held together the fragile batting line up even though he was not at his best in the business.
At the outset of the innings he was shaky and gave Mohammad Nabi, the off-spinner who opened the bowling, a maiden. Nabi didn’t give him any respite and Tamim wasn’t also smart enough initially to get through the problem. He even could have gone for naught but only luck was with him on the day. As he faced the seventh ball of Nabi, he went for a pull but miscued it. He got a top edge but to his delight, Afghanistan captain Ashgha Stanikzai spilled a sitter at mid-on.
That was the only chance he though gave, Tamim wasn’t as dominating he as is used to be. Yet credit to him, he kept the things simple and didn’t go for needless charge to the bowlers. It was the thing that Mashrafe actually wanted from him since the history suggests when Tamim failed to get the side off to a good start, Bangladesh are used to taste collapse.
Tamim was as alert as he could be and rallied the side with astute help of Sabbir Rahman whose promotion to the No. 3 position proved to be a masterstroke. Mahmudullah Riyad didn’t fare too badly in this position but he is more aggressive component than Sabbir for late onslaught and also a versatile batsman. His unbeaten 21 ball-31 was the testament of his ability to bat in any position.
Sabbir paid the price of keeping faith on him duly and made Tamim relieved by ticking the scoreboard at swift pace.
Largely because of the batsmen’s inability to carry the start was the culpable
even though Bangladesh won the first match in which they scored 265 before being shot out. In that match both Tamim and Riyad had the opportunity to hit century but both missed it and Bangladesh were 20 runs short.
Tamim and Sabbir combined for a 140-run for the second wicket after Soumya Sarkar perished to a loose shot yet again. Sabbir however got out after scoring his ODI career best 65 but Tamim Iqbal this time didn’t missed out a century what he deserved actually after playing so patiently.
He came out from shell after the century but paid the price of ultra-aggressive mood and yet again Bangladesh tasted a middle order collapse. As Bangladesh were destined to propel past 300, the regular wicket falls resisted Bangladesh to go for all out attack. While Mushfiqur Rahim was not in form and once again paid the price of playing across the bat, Shakib probably did the most wretched thing by playing a lazy shot. His dismissal left Bangladesh actually ruing for 20/30 runs more.
However in personal ground, Mushfiqur Rahim also missed a chance to score 4000 runs as the third Bangladeshi batsman after Tamim and Shakib. Starting the series with 3920, he could score just 56 runs in this three ODIs, with 12 in the last match and remained 24 runs short to reach the milestones.
