Nobha, a lion of Rangpur Zoo and Nova, a lioness form Chittagong were kept in a single cage after they tied the knot in pompous ceremony at Chittagong Zoo on 21 September.
They now have started conjugal life from yesterday.
After Nobha and Nova got wedlock they were kept in side by side cages so that they could develop intimacy between them.
Two lionesses ‘Borsha’ and ‘Nova’ at Chittagong Zoo have long been deprived of their mates in the cages. On the other hand, the two lions at Rangpur Zoo were also passing their days in extreme loneliness in absence of mates.
Therefore, to remove loneliness of the captive mammals, an exchange of a lion and lioness took place between the two zoos.
Deputy Curator of Chittagong Zoo Dr Md Mongur Morshed Chowdhury left for Rangpur Zoo with the lioness ‘Borsha’ on August 29 and returned with the lion ‘Badsha’.
On the wedding day apart from government high-officials, students from different educational institutes and visitors from different parts of the city took part on the occasion, a first in Bangladesh.
