The government will bring the country’s all people under the sanitation coverage by the next three years, reports UNB.
Chief Engineer of the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) Md Wali Ullah came up with the information at a press conference yesterday.
The press conference was arranged at the DPHE in the capital to announce various programmes marking the sanitation month which is being observed throughout October.
At the press conference, the DPHE chief engineer portrayed the country’s overall sanitation situation.
He said currently country’s 99 per cent people are under the sanitation coverage. Of them, 61 per cent use improved sanitation system. “Twenty-eight per cent of the population use joint latrine while 10 per cent undeveloped one,” he said.
Wali Ullah said it will be possible to ensure cent per cent improved sanitation by 2020. Like every year, the month of October is being observed as the sanitation month. The theme of this year month is: ‘Improved sanitation, healthy life’.
The Local Government Division has also taken a step to formulate a framework for ensuring the supply of safe water and improved sanitation.
