Cosmetics seized at airport

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department yesterday arrested six persons with illegal cosmetics worth around Tk 25 lakh at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.

Director General of CIID Moinul Khan confirmed it.
The arrested were identified as Shaheen Alam, Damil Hosain, Babul, and Minar of Comilla, Sheikh Khurshid Alam of Narayanganj, and Md Mosharraf Bepari of Madaripur. They landed in Dhaka from Karachi via Colombo on a Mihin Lanka Airlines flight MJ 501 at 11am.
Most of the cosmetics are of Pakistani Goree and Chandni brands which are used for skin care and beautification.As these were imported without approval, the standard of the products could not be known, he said.
During the primary interrogation, they admitted that they regularly visit Pakistan to smuggle Pakistani goods.
A case was filed in this connection.
