‘Stop using children in politics’

Advocates of child rights have urged the political parties not to use children in politics, reports BSS.
The recommendation came in a report titled “Situation of Bangladeshi Children: Newspaper Analysis and Experts’ Opinions” released at a programme by Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) at Jatiya Press Club in the capital yesterday. “The incidents of violence using children in politics doubled in 2015 than that of the previous year...So a strict law should be introduced to stop using children in politics and make all political parties to abide by a code of conduct towards children,” the foundation’s Executive Director Shaheen Anam said at the function. 
MJF Director Dr Tofail Ahmed, board member Parvin Mahmud and programme coordinator Abdullah Al Mamun were present among others.
“Children must be prevented from throwing brick chips, using weapons and participating in processions merely for a small amount of money,” said Shaheen, adding, everybody has the responsibility to do something for the betterment of children. The report said, a total of 104 children were victims of various incidents including road accidents, rape, abduction and suicide across the country last year. Of them, 15 children died and 91 were injured.
In 2014, a total of 51 children were the victim of political violence, said the report. The report presented a comparative positive and negative statistics about the children in published reports in newspaper.
