CU goes on 12-day vacation from Oct 2
CHITTAGONG: Chittagong University (CU) will go on a 12 days vacation on October 2 on the occasions of holy Durga Puja, Ashura and autumn holiday.
The vacation will start from October 2 and continue till October 13, a CU press release said. Besides, all classes and academic activities will remain suspended from October 16 to October 31 for admission tests for the first year honours courses of the session 2016-17 under different faculties and institutes of the university. CU Deputy registrar (academic) SM Akbar Hossain said administrative and departmental offices will, however, remain opened during the vacation for the admission test
Inter-dept football tournament begins at RU
An inter-departmental football tournament has begun at Rajshahi University (RU) on Tuesday, said a press release.
President of Inter-Department Football Contest-2016 Sub-Committee and also RU social science faculty dean Prof Faizur Rahman inaugurated the tournament at the university stadium on Tuesday morning.
In the inaugural day two matches were held. At the first match Agronomy Department defeated Oriental Department by 3-0 goal while Geology & Mining Department beat Population Science & Human Resources Department by 3-0 score in the another match of the day. RU student advisor Prof Mizanur Rahman and acting director of physical exercise department Chowdhury Moniruzzaman were also present in the inaugural ceremony. A total of 50 teams have been participating in the competition and the final will be held on October 20
DU English dept, Confidence Group sign MoU
Confidence Group has recently signed an agreement with the Centre for English Teaching and Research (CETR), Department of English, Dhaka University, says a press release.
Under this agreement, CETR will train the employees of Confidence Group on Business Communication Skills Development.
Mohammed Tariqul Islam, Head of Group HR & Corporate Communications of Confidence Group, and Professor Tahmina Ahmed, Director of CETR, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations at CETR’s office at Dhaka University.
Dr Rubina Khan, chairperson of the Department of English, and Mahmudul Hasan Mridha, Coordinator – Training and Development of Confidence Group, were also present at the signing ceremony.
Workshop on career grooming held at BAU
MYMENSINGH: A workshop on career growth in facilitating rural entrepreneurship, professional CV writing and selling power excellence, was held at the Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin auditorium of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) recently.
BAU Students Affairs’ Adviser SD Chawdhury chaired the workshop in where CEO of Kazi Shahid Foundation Momtaz Chawdhury and Farid Hasan Ahmed, development lawyer, emerald advocacy and advisory associates, spoke on it.
The BAU administration in association with Katalyst and Consiglieri Private Limited organized the event with an aim to build platform for fresh graduates and employers.
Cervical cancer is curable, say speakers
SAVAR: The speakers at a seminar on Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus on Tuesday said the cervical cancer is curable despite of its severity.
'On an average around 18 women die of cervical cancer daily in Bangladesh,' the speakers told the awareness seminar on cervical cancer at senate hall on the campus.
JU Public Health and Informatics (PHI) department organized the seminar while JU Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Abul Hossain addressed as the chief guest and Treasurer Professor Dr Abul Khair addressed as the special guest. Presided over by the chairman of JU PHI department Professor Dr Md Ruhul Furqan, Professor of Gynecology department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Ashrafunnessa and acting Chief Medical Officer of JU Medical Center Dr Muzeza Jahura spoke as key speakers.
