Man crushed under wheels of train in Rajshahi
A visa-seeking man was killed under the wheels of a running train at Bornally rail-crossing under Boalia Police station in the city yesterday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Rabu Islam, 45, son of late Ershad Ali of Lalitnagar Machranga village under Godagari Upazila of the district. In the early morning, he came to the city for collecting visa to visit India.
Some eyewitnesses told the journalists that Rabu met the tragic incident while he was trying to cross the railway track just before arrival of a commuter train at around 10.30 am.
Four food shops fined
Members of Department of National Consumer Right Protection (DNCRP) yesterday fined four food shops Taka 14,000 on charges of selling sub-standard foods in the district.
A DNCRP team conducted raids in Luxmipur Bazar area under Rajpara Police Station in Rajshahi city and found the shops guilty of preparing, possessing and selling foods in unhygienic condition.
ICRC to launch photo book
International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will launch a photo book, 150 Years of Humanitarian Action in 71 photos: Marking Milestones and Celebrating Memories, in the capital today.
The book contains 71 emblematic, historical and contemporary photos depicting 150 years of humanitarian actions worldwide and in Bangladesh in particular.
The photos from both global and local contexts in this book reflect the fact that the ICRC, although truly international in its presence and composition are yet consistently local in its approach, according to ICRC officials in the capital.
