Six abducted fishermen rescued after gunfight

KHULNA: A RAB-6 team early yesterday rescued six fishermen, following a gunfight with robbers at Dhangmari Range area under Dakop upazila in the Sundarbans East Zone, reports BSS.The RAB team also arrested a robber and recovered arms and ammunitions.
Commander of RAB-6 Rafiqul Islam yesterday at a press conference said acting on a tip-off, they raided a den of robber Sagar, chief of Sagar Bahini, at Marki canal, Majhafuto, Kalabogi and adjacent areas early Sunday.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers at the Monosa canal, adjacent to Bhadra River of Kalabogi outpost, the gang opened fire at the RAB team which prompted them retreated.
Earlier, robbers waited there along with six abducted fishermen with looted trawlers for collecting ransom from their (Fishermen) family members.
After the gunbattle, robbers fled the scene with a trawler leaving a robber injured.
Local forest men identified him as Shajahan Molla, 35, of Kalabogi village under Dakop upazila in Khulna.
The RAB troops rescued six fishermen along with two trawlers and recovered three guns, 24 rounds of bullet, four empty cartridges and a machet from the spot, he said.
