A man was stabbed to death at Shiyerbar village in Lohagara upazila early yesterday over establishing supremacy in the area. The deceased was identified as Ziaul Hasan, 37, son of Hashem Mollah, a resident of the village under Salnagar Union Parishad.
Jahangir Alam, officer-in-charge of Lohagara Police Station, said there had been longstanding dispute between Sikder and Mollah families of the village over establishing supremacy in the area. Over the dispute, the men of Saifar Sikder attacked Ziaul and stabbed him indiscriminately in a beel of the village around 9pm, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to Lohagara upazila Health Complex. Later, he was rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries in the morning.
Ziaul’s uncle Eklas Mollah said “A gang of criminals numbering 15/16 led by Titas Sikdar and Kamrul Sikdar hacked my nephew to death.”
Additional police have been deployed in the area, said the OC.
