Schoolboy gets PM response

Shirsendu Biswash, a fourth grader in Patuakhali Govt Jubilee High School, who wrote to the prime minister describing hardships of the local people who everyday have to cross Payra River in Mirzaganj upazila in Patuakhali, becomes happy after getting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s reply. Shirshendu wrote the letter to the prime minister on August 15, requesting her to have a bridge built on the river in Patuakhali’s Mirzaganj upazila.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina replied to the child promising to build a bridge across the river. The PM in her reply said she was delighted to receive the letter from him. She praised the boy for his awareness regarding his family’s safety while crossing the river.
Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner AKM Shamimul Haque Siddiqui formally handed the prime minister’s written response to the boy at the Government Jubilee High School at about 11 am yesterday. Patuakhali Zila Parishad Chairman Khan Mosharef Hossain, Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Advocate Tarikul Islam Moni were present, among others.
He also announced that the district administration will provide money for Shirshendu’s education up to higher secondary level.
School headmaster Siddiqur Rahman said the boy was very delighted  getting the Prime Minister’s reply to his letter.
Shirshendu’s father Biswajit Biswas works at a non-government organisation in Patuakhali and mother Shila Rani Sonnamot is a computer operator at the cooperatives department district office. The couple lives in Puran Bazaar area of the district town.
Expressing joy, Shila said, “I still can’t believe that the prime minister read my son’s letter. Thousands of blessings for the prime minister. I am so proud of my son.”
The Payra River is two kilometres wide at the point of the route Shirshendu takes to get to his school at Patuakhali from Mirzaganj.
