Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director and its media committee chairman Jalal Yunus urged public and private university authorities to take necessary steps to revive the past glory of the university students, who used to dominate the national crickets in earlier period.

“In past, the students of the educational institutions especially public universities are seen to dominate the national team. Even, those who were in the back up players are most of all the university students. But that tradition has been lost so many years,” said Jalal Younus.
“I urge all the public and private university authorities to come forward to take necessary measures to bring back the golden past of the university students, who would dominate the national stage from the national teams to other cricketing tournaments at home and aboard,” Yunus told media while talking at the reception programme of the ULAB Fielding Cricket Club.
“We want to see the educated cricketers in future. If each university come forward to initiate a joint programme with the BCB and could produce at least two age-level crickets, the country’s cricket will then be enriched,” he added.
University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), who represented Bangladesh in the Red Bull Campus Cricket World 2016, lost the trophy to Business Management School (BMS) of Sri Lanka, in the final. ULAB took part for the third time but could not champion yet. However, they had to back home with runners-up losing by 24 runs at Galle International Stadium.
Bangladesh team started their campaign with big win when they overwhelmed University of Sydney (Australia) by 10 wickets. They lost to Loughborough University, England by 25 runs. But they clawed back by claiming a nervy one-wicket victory over Assupol Tuks Cricket, University of Pretoria (UoP) to confirm the semifinal, from where they progressed to the final beating University of Central Punjab, Pakistan by two wickets.
ULAB Trusty Board member Kazi Inam Ahmed, who is also board director in BCB and its marketing committee chairman, ULAB team manager Toufiq Aziz, coach Masud Iqbal Mamun and team captain Hasanuzzaman ‘among others’ were also present.
