Fire at Ban Bhaban doused
The fire broke out at the Dhaka divisional forest office headquarters in Mohakhali yesterday morning was doused by the firemen of the Fire Service after forty-minute efforts.
Fire broke out at 10.50 am at Ban Bhaban, situated on the road linking Mohakhali to Gulshan-1, said Atiqur Rahman, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defense headquarters. Four fire fighting units rushed to the scene and doused the fire at around 11:30am, said fire service official. The fire originated from the fifth floor of the building, but no casualties were reported until filing of this report.

World Rivers Day observed 
The World Rivers Day was observed in the city on Sunday with various programmes. 
Environmental Conservation Awareness Forum Gazipur district unit organised a rally marking the day. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Gazipur inaugurated the rally in front of DC’s office on Sunday morning. President of the organisation Kamal Uddin Ahmed presided over the rally while Secretary Monjur Hossain Milon, central vice president of Bangladesh Save the River Movement Fedrick Mukul Bishwash, Mohiuddin Talukdar Kajol, Mohammed Almas Uddin and Mohammed Jamal Uddin spoke among others. Speakers urged to all to come forward for saving the rivers from pollution.

Four food shops fined 
Members of Department of National Consumer Right Protection (DNCRP) yesterday fined four food shops Taka 9,000 on charges of selling sub-standard foods in the district.
A DNCRP team conducted raids in Premtali Bazar area under Godagari upazila of the district and found the shops guilty of preparing, possessing and selling foods in unhygienic condition. The team fined the shops Taka 9,000 and realized the fined money from the shop owners on the spot. Deputy Director of DNCRP Mahabubur Rahman said the drive against the violations of consumers’ rights will continue.

78 ‘drug peddlers’ arrested
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Sunday arrested 78 alleged drug peddlers in separate drives in the capital and recovered different types of drugs from their possession.
According to a DMP release, different units of detective branch (DB) and different police stations carried out the raids throughout the capital. They recovered 1,157 yaba tablets, 461.255 grams of heroin, 9.350 KG of ganja, 120 bottles of phensedyl, 10 liters of liquor, 20 cans of beer and 417 sedative injections during the drives.

BAF replaces peacekeepers 
Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) replaced a 117-member contingent, led by Group Captain AFM Shamimul Islam, at the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Republic of Mali, a press release of Inter
Services Public Relation (ISPR) said in capital yesterday. As part of the replacement, 111 BAF members left Dhaka for Mali by UN chartered aircraft Sunday night. Earlier, a six-member advance team left Dhaka for Mali on September 18. Bangladesh Air Force also deployed three MI-171 helicopters for the first time in Mali on September 20. The helicopters will do transportation of UN officials and staff and medical evacuation.
