Prachyanat's ‘A Man for All Seasons’ on stage tomorrow after one year

Theatre troupe Prachyanat is going to stage its 6th production ‘A Man for All Seasons’ after one year. The play will be staged tomorrow on the 4th day of ongoing 18-day ‘National Theatre Festival’ at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha in the capital.
The original script of the play ‘A Man for All Seasons’ was prepared by the British playwright Robert Bolt and translated into Bengali by Shahed Iqbal. Thespian Azad Abul Kalam has directed the play.
The play is about the life and times of Sir Thomas More member of the Privy Council, Speaker of House of Commons, and Chancellor of the Exchequer who was ultimately decapitated at the order of Henry VIII. Through a portrayal of Sir Thomas’ public duty, spiritual quest and private agonies the play foreshadows the hero’s canonization by the Roman Catholic Church in 1935.
The cast of the play includes Toufikul Emon, Azad A Kalam, Shakhawat H Rezvi, Topon Majumder, Reetu Sattar, Heera Chowdhury, Shatabdi Wadud, Shahed Ali and many more.
The play, written in 1960, was first staged in 1961 in New York and 1999 in Dhaka.
To note, BSA and Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation (BGTF) have jointly organised the festival with the slogan ‘A Mati Noy Jongibader, A Mati Manobotar’, where a total of 58 troupes from across the country is staging their plays.
