An elderly man was killed allegedly by his drug-addict son at Bausi Chandanpur village in Sarishabari upazila early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Mamtaz Ali Mandal, 65, a resident of the village. Officer-in-charge of Sarishabari Police Station Rezaul Islam Khan said Umar Ali, 20, son of Mamtaz Ali, demanded some money from his father for buying cigarette around 3.00am. When Mamtaz refused to give him the money, an altercation ensued between them. At one stage Umar hit Mamtaz with a bamboo stick, leaving him dead on the spot. Informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Jamalpur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy yesterday morning. Omar went into hiding after the incident. A case was filed with Sarishabari Police Station in this regard.
