The latest stage of the 2016 Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup, golf’s largest and most exciting amateur tournament, took place at Kurmitola Golf Club in Dhaka, on Saturday, says a press release.
The 91st of 100 qualifiers for the global event, which has gone from strength to strength since the inaugural tournament in 2013, featured 105 players, all personally-invited guests of Turkish Airlines.
Brig Gen Ahsanul Haque Miah won the individual competition with 40 Points and advanced to the Grand Final to be held in October and November this year in Antalya, Turkey. Nazmul Hasan was runner-up, Brig Gen Abdur Razzaque was third and Shaila Ahsan and Maj Gen Manzurul Alam won the nearest-the-pin prizes.
“We would like to congratulate everyone who took part in the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup qualifier at Dhaka,” Murat Irdesel, General Manager for Turkish Airlines Dhaka.
The first qualifiers took place earlier in February, in Dar-es-Salaam (Tanzania), Mumbai (India) and Doha (Qatar) respectively and the 2016 series takes place across the globe, in destinations including Hong Kong, Great Britain, South Korea, Japan, China, Spain, the United States, Portugal, Italy, France, Greece, Argentina, Brazil and Turkey.
The overall winners of the Grand Final progress to play in the 2016 Turkish Airlines Open pro-am, while all finalists are to enjoy an eight-night stay in an all-inclusive hotel.
The event is backed by Global Sponsor the Financial Times, with Conte of Florence Official Clothing and Fashion Partner.
Turkish Airlines launched the World Golf Cup in 2013.
It featured 12 qualifying events and was won by China’s Han Liang. His prize for victory was partnering world number one and 14-time major champion Tiger Woods in the Turkish Airlines Open pro-am. 2015 winner Neill Bam from Johannesburg proved successful in the 2015 series and went on to partner Rory McIlroy, a once in a lifetime opportunity.
After that initial success, there was a rapid expansion to include 70 events worldwide last year.
