Ctg compile impressive 294

NCL starts at four venues simultaneously

Barisal Division put on 165 for three against defending champions Khulna Division on the close of the rain-affected opening day in the Tier-1 match of the Walton National Cricket League (NCL) at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna yesterday.  

At Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra, Dhaka Metro in Tier-1 scored 47 for two against Dhaka Division at stumps as they could have play only 15 overs due to downpours.
In Tier-2, Chittagong Division compiled 294 for five against Rangpur Division in the opening day at the Sylhet International Stadium. 
Rajshahi Division garnered 94 for two in 27.3 overs against Sylhet Division in Tier-2 match at the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi.
Barisal vs Khulna
Opting to bat first, Barisal Division initially fumbled losing their opener Nuruzzaman inside seven overs. But Shahriar Nafees partnered with Fazle Mahmud steadied the ship hitting a 146-run for the second wicket stand. They extended the scores from the precarious 19 to 165. Mahmud smashed 82 off 118 with the help of 12 fours before being caught by Nahidul Islam off Mahedi Hasan.
Thereafter, Shahriar Nafees had tried to stretch the innings with Shahin Hossain but he trudged back to the pavilion with duck having lbw while Barisal were tottering on 165 for there.
Nafees, who has been preparing himself for the upcoming Test series against England, remained at stumps on 76. He clouted 11 fours in his 111-ball unbeaten innings. Al Amin Hossain picked up one wicket for Khulna.
Dhaka Division vs Metro
Because of the rain Dhaka Metro could not start the proceedings after winning the toss. The match was started at 1:00pm due to wet outfield and rain. After being played 10.4 overs the rain once again interrupted the match. Finally Dhaka Metro closed the day-1 on 47 for two in 15 overs. Shamsur Rahman fell for 11 and Asif Ahmed went for 15. Shadman Islam was on 18 not out and Marshall Ayub was on naught at stumps.  
Former national team captain Mohammad Ashraful, who was suspended due to match-fixing, returned to first class cricket after three and a half years. He has been included in Dhaka Metro playing XI. 
Chittagong vs Rangpur
Put in to bat first, Chittagong Division collected 294 for five in 87 overs thanks to Yasir Ali’s 90 and Tasamul Haque’s 52.
Captain Mominul Haque and Nazimuddin missed their half-centuries just for four and seven respectively. The duo shared a 61-run stand for the second wicket after losing Mahbubul Karim cheaply. Thereafter, Tasamul Haque and Yasir Ali put together 124 runs for the fourth wicket. Although Mominul and Nazimuddin missed to pull up their fifties, Tasamul and Yasir didn’t repeat it. Tasamul struck 52 off 129 that was laced with five fours. 
Yasir clubbed 12 fours and two sixes in his 151-ball 90 before being caught by Suhrawardi Shuvo off Mahmudul Hasan. 
Sazzadul Haque and Irfan Sukkur remained unbeaten on 10 and 18 respectively. Alauddin Babu picked up two wickets. Subashis Roy and Mahmudul Hasan snapped up one wicket apiece.
Rajshahi vs Sylhet
Rajshahi Division lost their two top order batsman to put in to bat first at home ground. Myshukur Rahman and Nazmul Hossain Shanto holed out for 15 and 11 respectively. Zunaid Siddique and Farhad Hossain handled the initial fuss with composure. The duo widened the scores from 41 to 94. Zunaid remained unbeaten on 26, while Farhad was on 30 not out.
Debutant Ebadat Hossain, who hailed from Robi Pacer Hunt Programme 2016 and Abu Jayed took one wicket each for Sylhet.
