Bangladesh opener Tamim  Iqbal added another cap to his illustrious career as he reached the milestone of scoring 9,000 runs in all formats as the first Bangladeshi batsman.

He was 15 runs away of the record before starting the first ODI against Afghanistan yesterday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The swashbuckling opener reached the feat in the third over of the game by smashing Afghan fast bowler Dawlat Zadran a boundary through the square leg. He reached the milestone in the 285 innings of 248th international match.
Tamim currently holds the highest run and century in all formats for Bangladesh, something which a unique record since no batsmen in the world makes such records as yet for his country.
The opener however hit 80 off 98, smacking nine boundaries in the first game against Afghanistan to be the top-scorer of the side.
Shakib Al Hasan remains the second highest run scorer for Bangladesh in all formats at the moment with 8372 while Mushfiqur Rahim is in the list in third position with 7279.
Mohammad Ashraful has 6655 and Habibur Bashar scored 5194 runs but none of them in the national team now. While Bashar, currently a selector, retired from the cricket, Ashraful resumed domestic cricket after the ban on him following the match fixing scam in BPL has been lifted recently. Ashraful would be available for national selection after two years.
As expectedly Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar remains the most prolific run scorer in all format with 34,357 runs, though he played just one T20 international. But the former megastar is the leading run scorer and centurion in both Test and ODI. Sri Lankan former star Kumar Sangakkara followed him with 28,016 while just three other batsmen—Australia’s Rickey Ponting (27,483), Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardena (25,957) and South Africa’s Jacques Kallis (25,534)—have scored more than 25,000 runs in International cricket.
